Make Me Over

How many times do you look in your closet and think, “Ugh!! I hate everything in here!”? (Guys, this blog is probably one you’ll want to skip ;)

Well, I’ve been having one of those days for about the last nine months! Basically ever since I stopped fitting into my regular clothes and had to move into maternity clothes.

Now granted I know I’ll have lots more to choose from once I can throw these maternity suits (and especially the swim suit) into storage. But once I have my baby I think I’m ready for a new look.

I’m not talking about anything drastic. I love my hair stylist! She’s fantastic. (Tonya of Tonya’s Imaging Salon in Hyde Park and Crestview Hills). But people can be brutal when you’re on TV. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had people say to me, “You need to wear this” or “Don’t ever wear that color suit ever again. It’s not your color.” No matter how long you’ve been in this business you never get used to the unsolicited advice… at least I don’t.

But now I’m prepared for the feedback and I really want to know what you think.

I’m pretty conservative. I don’t buy much that has a pattern, flare or ruffles. And you’ve probably noticed my favorite fallback is anything black. I’m only five foot tall so I’m fearful anything too busy will look hideous on TV. And of course no one wants to wear something that makes them look fat.

But I’ve been talking with my co-anchor Sandra and we’re thinking we need to loosen up a bit. We can’t wear anything too crazy because we do still have to be credible. But I look at the women on the networks and they don’t wear blazers every night. Some times they get away with cute tops or sassy little sweaters.

So I’m interested to know what do you think?

Do you pay attention to what we wear or do you not care? Would you like to see us be a little more trendy?

I hope you’ll respond. I’d love the feedback.

  1. A little more trendy would be fine.
You come across credible, so I don’t think what you wear would be an issue.

  2. Sheree-I watch both Ch.5 and Ch.12 news and I will tell you that you are always better dressed than the others. I personally don’t like seeing some of the women anchors in too casual of clothes. For instance, Cammy Dierking and Kit Andrews! I paid attention to Cammy yesterday b/c I had read your blog. She had on a red cotton type shirt and her hair half way pulled up with what looked like a hair clip. She looked like a 45 year old trying to dress like a teenager. So just my 2 cents…I appreciate the professionalism Ch.5 has.

  3. wow!…a wardrobe shuffle? i think that could be a good thing. a cute little sweater set or long sleeve tunic type top would look cute. i don’t think you would lose credibility as credibility comes more in the content of the news not in wearing a black blazer/pant suit. although if you were low cut V-neck tops and showed cleavage every night might be a different story (oh, no pun intended).

if anything, getting away from the daily blazer and pant suit might be a good thing so you don’t look so stiff everyday. when your clothes get predictable, you could become boring. well, you asked for an opinion hope this is acceptable. congrats and good luck with your new bundle of joy!

  4. Sheree…
what ever you do PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE..don’t change your hair/style or color! I’ve noticed its a bit” looser/less styled, and its looking a bit longer (great!) now its not now AS blonde..but it looks great!
As far as your clothes…I am a guy so I won’t comment really here (because I don’t have a problem with low cut v-neck tops, of course. I don’t really know your age so I would not know how to comment on WHAT would look trendy, etc.
I hope these blogs give you some kind of answer.
