BOY IN BALLOON

October 16, 2009 - Leave a Response

So I’m driving into work today in a panic when I realize I forgot to bring a shirt for my suit.  THAT WOULD BE INTERESTING.

So, I stop off, buy I shirt on clearance and get to work about a half an hour late.

It wasn’t a big deal, but I was having a small melt down (at least in my head)..

I thought I was having a bad day.. until I look up  and see video of what we think is a 6-year old boy, floating away ALONE in a runaway balloon.

DID YOU SEE THIS TODAY?!

It was horrifying.  You couldn’t help but watch, hoping and praying by the grace of god this balloon wasn’t going to smash into the ground.

Two hours later, after thinking he fell OUT of the balloon and presumably died.. he was found hiding in attic.  THE JOKE WAS ON US!

Talk about a parents worst nightmare.  Of course they were thankful their curious little boy was ok.  But can you imagine this happening to you and every network in the country broadcasting it live?!

I would have been grounded for life!

What would you do if that were your son?

ANOTHER JOB…

October 13, 2009 - One Response

Don’t worry.. I’m not going anywhere ;)

This job.. has nothing to do with channel 5!

But I recently signed up to be a VOLUNTEER for Connor’s Kindergarten class.  WHO KNEW IT WOULD BE SO MUCH WORK!?

I had to attend a 3-hour training seminar over the weekend a few weeks ago.  That was fine and actually pretty helpful.

But I get an email letting me know that I’m one of FIVE Room Mothers.  FIVE?!  Really?!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled to help out.  It’s one perk of being home in the mornings.  Plus, it helps with that Guilty Mom Syndrome I have going on (being a working mom).  But this morning I met with the other Room Moms and apparently this is a BIG DEAL.

When we were in school, didn’ t your parent just send in some Little Debbie’s for your birthday or something?  If you were lucky your mom made homemade cupcakes.

NOT ANYMORE!  First of all, I learned today that cupcakes are a NO NO.  Apparently they’re too messy.

But cupcakes are nothing compared to the other things moms do now.

We not only help with the Holiday Parties.  WE PLAN THEM!  EVERYTHING!  We have to come up with treat stations, games, crafts, and goodie bags for 26 five year olds.   I can hardly entertain the one I have ;)

I have to admit, I was a bit overwhelmed!  I thought if I made some cookies (by the way for me.. that means cutting them from the Pillsbury Dough Roll) and sent them in with Connor, I’d be helping.  NOPE!  This is like another job!

We all have assignments for each party.  We then have to go to the parties and actually THROW the party.  I’ve thrown one “kid party” and that was for Connor’s 5th B-day.  We didn’t do crafts.  We didn’t do treat stations.  Heck, I didn’t even bake the cake and I was overwhelmed!

So, I’ll have to let you know how it goes.  26-kids against five moms.  This should be interesting!  Our first assignment is the Halloween Party on the 30th.  Stay tuned!

BREAKING NEWS

So I get a message from our babysitter… with this picture attached.

MY FIRST TOOTH!

MY FIRST TOOTH!

My little guy lost his first tooth AND I MISSED IT!  I was so bummed!   He looks so cute.

BUT what is the going rate for a tooth these days??  I was lucky to get a quarter!

Kyle thinks because it’s his first tooth we should give him 5-bucks.  FIVE BUCKS??!  We’ll be out 50 by the time it’s all said and done!

I thought a dollar was more appropriate.    So we settled on 2-bucks.  What do you think?  Man this Tooth Fairy thing is a racket!

BRA’S FOR BREAST CANCER

October 8, 2009 - Leave a Response

I bet that got your attention!

But we all know someone who’s had Breast Cancer.  My mother-in-law was diagnosed right before Kyle and I got married.  Last year I featured a local woman (Lauralee) who just turned 40 and had to have a double Mastectomy.  It was such a personal journey, we’ve actually become friends.

ANYWAY…

In an effort to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation… I’m going all out this year.  Take a look!

FINDING A CURE.. ONE BRA AT A TIME

FINDING A CURE.. ONE BRA AT A TIME

Can you tell what that’s supposed to be??  A PEACOCK!  You know, for NBC!   Pretty creative huh?!

As much as I’d like to take the credit.. I can’t.  The truth is, I was asked to decorate a bra to be auctioned off to raise money for Breast Cancer awareness.  THE ONLY PROBLEM IS… I’M NOT ARTISTIC… AT ALL!  So, I begged two of our young, hip, cool producers to do my homework for me.    ;)

I love the peacock!  I think it’s perfect.  Now hopefully someone will pay big money for it, so we can raise a lot of money.

By the way if YOU’RE interested.. It’ll be auctioned off.. October 24th at 7pm at Sway Dance Fitness in Kenwood.  The money goes to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

GROUNDHOG DAY

October 6, 2009 - Leave a Response

First order of business, WHO DEY!   HOW BOUT IT?!  Sure, it wasn’t pretty.  Once again we all lost five years off our lives rooting the Bengals on, BUT THEY DID IT!

Seriously, I’m considering doing a story with fans wearing heart monitors while they watch the game!  NOW THAT WOULD BE A STORY!

Anyway, it was a WIN and that’s all that matters.

I hope you had a great weekend.  I tried to take it easy so that I wasn’t sick for Jack Atherton’s first day today.  We did the 5pm show together tonight and we’ll be back on at 11pm.  He cracks me up!  The one difference between Jack and other anchor’s I’ve worked with is he ad-libs a lot.  So I never know what he’s going to say.  It’s fun.

Anyway.. now to GROUNDHOG DAY.

I swear, I feel like I’m living the movie Groundhog Day.  EVERY SINGLE DAY  I  wake up and my little guy (Cameron the 2-year old) wants to watch the movie CARS.  It’s an adorable movie and even very entertaining for adults but NOT EVERY DAY.  We’re not big on letting the boys watch a  lot of TV anyway.  But Cam likes to have it on in the background while he races his matchbox cars around the livingroom.

It’s the cutest thing.  But seriously if I hear “Mator.  Like Ta-mator.  But without the Ta!” one more time… I’m going to shoot myself!  AND POOR CONNOR.  Every time Cameron tries to put the movie in, Connor yells, “NOT AGAIN!”

Oh.. and an update on the “Girlfriend situation”.  So, I’m picking Connor up from school today and a mom walks up to me and says, “Are you Connor’s mom?”  I say, “Uh, yes.  Why?”  She says, “Well, my little girl Anna, loves Connor.  She fixes her hair special for him everyday, hoping he’ll notice.”

SO NOW THERE’S TWO LITTLE GIRLS AFTER MY SON!  LOL.  Connor proceeded to get into the car and say, “That’s the other girl who’s in love with me mom.”

OMG!  I’m so not ready for this!

SICKY SICK

October 2, 2009 - One Response

Do you have a house full of sick people?

Both of my boys are fighting nasty colds.  Luckily it seems to only be in their head.  But you know how this goes… I NOW HAVE IT!

My throat has been killing me the last few days.  NOT A GOOD THING considering I have to talk a lot :)

You know what.. I’ll take this any day if I can avoid the H1-N1.  UGH!

See you tomorrow

A GIRLFRIEND?!

October 1, 2009 - Leave a Response

Before I get to that, I want to answer a question a lot of you have been asking me about.   Jack Atherton is joining us next week.   He’s going to be teamed up with me AND SANDRA.  Sandra isn’t gone.  She’s just on maternity leave.    But until she comes back to work, Jack and I will be covering the early and late newscasts together.

OKAY… NOW TO THIS GIRLFRIEND ISSUE…

So, I pick my 5-year old up yesterday from school.  Connor gets in the car and announces,  “Mommy, I have a girlfriend!”

WHAT?!  HE’S FIVE.

He goes on to tell me that her name is Riley, and I QUOTE, “I’M IN LOVE!”

UGH!  He’s dumping me already!   So you know what I did today right?  As I’m picking Connor up, I whisper in his ear, “Which one is Riley?”  I had to check her out!  He’s my little boy!

Then, as loudly as possible Connor says, “It’s that one!”  AND POINTS!   But apparently he’s not too “IN LOVE”.   Today there was competition.  All I’ve been able to get out of him is “She likes pink.”  LOL!

Does that mean I’m still the number one girl in his life??

JACK IS BACK!

September 29, 2009 - 2 Responses

Have you heard?  Jack Atherton is coming to channel 5.    One week from tonight, Jack will be joining our News 5 team.

We’re really excited.  Tonight, Jack and I spent the night cutting some promotional spots that will start airing this Thursday.   He is such a great guy!

It’s funny because you guys only get to see one side of us on the news.  But Jack’s not only a great journalist, he’s a so so nice.  I’m hope you like us together.  He starts Monday night and I can’t wait.  I think he’s going to be a great addition and it’ll be great to get some help at 11pm.

Stay tuned!

JACK IS BACK!

ps… HOW BOUT THEM BENGALS!  WHO DEY!

WARNING!

September 24, 2009 - 2 Responses

There’s a hazard to being my friend.  Some of my family members have already experienced this.   I could show up on your doorstep with a camera at anytime!  :)

I’m kidding!  Kind of.

My dads been on News 5.  Two of my best girlfriends have been on A FEW TIMES!  And my neighbors… well… they’re always a prime target.

I always laugh when friends say to me “this is OFF the record”, as if I’m walking around with a hidden microphone.

But there are times when I’ll hear about a story and I may turn to someone I know to help us with the story.

So, at 6:45 tonight,  I get a call from one of our reporters in desperate need of a Northern Kentucky parent …who has a child who goes to a school where there’s been a confirmed H1-N1 case.

So, I call one of  my neighbors, pleading with her to do an interview with us.  Not tomorrow.  Not in a few hours.  In a matter of minutes!

Thank goodness, she’s a great sport!  We gave her 15-minutes notice and we were on her doorstep, ready to put a microphone and camera in her face.

So be careful what you tell me, I may come knocking ;)

BACK ON THE BANDWAGON

September 22, 2009 - Leave a Response

Yes.  I’ll admit it.  I was quick to get down on our Bengals.  But can you blame me??!  It’s been a little frustrating the past few years.  Sunday after Sunday.  Hoping.  Yelling.  Praying for a winning season, only to have our hopes dashed by Christmas.

Anyway, I told you how I cheated on our men in orange and black last week when I went to a Cowboys game with Kyle.

I was in Tampa Bay and being a supportive wife.  I traded in my stripes for a cowboy hat.

TRADER!

TRADER!

But I’m happy to report that long BEFORE the game in Green Bay yesterday, I pulled out our Bengals gear and was bleeding orange and black.

I have two Tigers to prove it!

Who Dey!

Who Dey!

AND WHAT A GAME!!  I’ll have you know that Kyle bought the boys Cowboys jerseys while we were in Tampa.  And the plan was to have them wear the Bengals jerseys for the 1pm game.  And then have them switch for the 8pm game.  (We’re definitely having an NFL divide in our house)   But the boys were so excited about the Bengals winning (and the fact that they love tigers) they didn’t want to change jerseys.

Does that make them a better fan than me?  I THINK IT DOES!  ;)
